Borrowed from Scythian *xata, from Proto-Iranian *kátah (compare Avestan 𐬐𐬀𐬙𐬀‎ (kata‎, room, hut, cellar), Persian کده (kade, house), Middle Persian 𐭪𐭩‎𐭪𐭲‎ (ktk' /kadag/, house)).
