Etymology
Learned borrowing from Latin Chrīstus (“Christ”), from Ancient Greek Χρῑστός (Khrīstós), proper noun use of χρῑστός (khrīstós, “the anointed one”), a calque of Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (māšīaḥ, “anointed”) and Aramaic ܡܫܺܝܚܳܐ (m'šīḥāʾ).
