From the initial part of Swedish Kajaneborg, which is of the same origin as in Swedish Kajanaland (Kainuu), probably from Russian каяний (kajanij), каянский (kajanskij) (compare Russian Каянская земля (Kajanskaja zemlja, Kvenland?)), which is in some way related to Kainuu and Old Norse kvenir.
