Etymology
Attested as Jannendorp in 1936. Compound of an unclear first element and dorp (“village, settlement”). The first element may be dialectal jannen (“chestnut, Castanea sativa”) used in a perjorative sense to refer to the perceived poverty of the settlement's inhabitants. Compare Musschendorp.
