Helmut

German

Etymology

First recorded ca. 1800, probably a variant of Helmold, from Proto-Germanic *helmaz and *mōdaz, but derivations from heil/helm + muot have also been suggested. The name is shaped like modern German hell + Mut ("clear courage").
