-akka

See also: akka and Akka

Finnish

Etymology

From -kka by re-extraction from a-stems.

Suffix

-akka (front vowel harmony variant -äkkä)

  1. Forms some adjectives, primarily with a diminutive meaning.
  2. (uncommon) Alternative form of -kka

Usage notes

Attaches to the weak stem. Replaces the final vowel. With -ea adjectives, the entire ending -ea is replaced and the previous consonant is possibly (but not necessarily) weakened; this is because the -akka was not attached to the -ea stem, but the suffix was replaced wholesale. In free variation with -kka.
