Of Native Korean origin, related to standard Korean and more common 요 (-yo).

유 • (-yu)

1. Chungcheong form of 요 (-yo, “A particle attached to intimate-style verbs and adjectives to form the polite style”).

   • 고린장, 그전엔 고린장했잖유. (Chungcheong, Hongseong)

     Gorinjang, geujeonen gorinjanghaetjanyu.

     Goryeojang, back then they practiced Goryeojang.

     Local retelling of the 'Why the practice of Koryeojang ended' story.

As one of the more famous features of the dialect, it is frequently used in order to stereotypically replicate the Chungcheong dialect. It's use in the modern day, however, is largely restricted to elderly speakers, espeically those residing in rural areas.
