Compound of (ban, order, turn, place, rank) + 付け (tsuke, attaching, sticking, applying, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, continuative or stem form) of verb 付ける tsukeru, “to stick something to something else, to apply something, to attach something”).[1][2]
