A proposed alchemical symbol for platinum, derived from the symbols for the planetary metals gold () and iron (), as platinum (previously known as 'white gold') was often found mixed with iron. This symbol for the newly discovered metal platinum was created in order to have a symbol to apply to the newly discovered planet Uranus.
