Etymology

From Arabic حَسَّ‎ (ḥassa), أَحَسَّ‎ (ʾaḥassa). The reflexive construction with pronominal suffixes is slightly unsual but not without precedent in Classical Arabic; compare أَظُنُّنِي‎ (ʾaẓunnunī, “I consider myself”). In Maltese ħass, it probably mirrors the construction of Sicilian si sèntiri, from Latin sentīre.
