Etymology
The result of conversion from a present participle (ülő (“sitting”)) to a noun, from ül (“to sit”) + -ő (“present participle suffix”). Its antecedent might have been the phrase "ülő vas" (sitting iron). The anatomy sense may have been patterned after the German Amboss (“anvil; bone in the inner ear”).[1]
