Etymology
From Proto-Uralic *witte (“five”).[1][2] Cognates include Mansi ат (at), Khanty вет (wet), Finnish viisi, Estonian viis and Nganasan Nganasan бииʔ (bīʔ, “ten”). The labialization *i > *ü > ö after original *w is regular; compare öl (“to kill”) from *widä-.
