Etymology

In some dialects, also as nidiar. From Vulgar Latin *nitidiāre, from Latin nitidāre, present active infinitive of nitidō, from nitidus (shining, polished, glittering). Compare Occitan netejar, French nettoyer, or Catalan netejar.

Verb

ñidiar (first-person singular indicative present ñidio, past participle ñidiáu)

  1. to clear, to make clear
    Nun cuspáis nel suelu que téngolo ñidiáu
    Don't spit on the floor, I just cleaned it
  2. to clarify
    Si nun-y lu ñidias, nun se enterrá
    If you don't clarify it for him, he won't grasp it
  3. to polish glass
