Obsolete plural form of är, present tense of vara.
vi äro ― we are
de äro ― they are
han är ― he is
Usage notes
Sometimes used for humorous effect similar to English -eth (often incorrectly for the singular, e.g. "jag äro," though older speakers still maintain intuition for plural verb forms, which were abandoned in the press around 1945). Gingo is also well known and used similarly.
