Thomas Gaffin

Thomas Gaffin (18191869) was a 19th century sculptor of Irish descent from a family of sculptors.

Life

He was born in Swinford, County Mayo in Ireland the son of Edward Gaffin (1780-1855) a sculptor and stone mason. The family left Ireland and moved to London around 1800. He specialised in ornate graves for the rich and famous, most of his work is in the south of England.[1]

From 1841 to 1860 he lived at 17 Kensington Place and from then until death lived at 6 Bessborough Place. He had offices at 63 Regent Street. He died on 24 October 1869 and is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery. His will left £16000.[2]
