Early life and Education
Guha (born in Dacca, Undivided India, 1942) attended Scottish Church Collegiate School. Presidency University, Kolkata and holds Ph.D. from University of Calcutta in 1968.
Careers
'Dr. Subhendu Guha served previously as Chairman of United Solar a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices (ECD).[8]
In 1980, he Invented a new process for depositing thin film of amorphous silicon; an element found in sand that can be applied as a thin film to produce a photovoltaic material; which is now currently used by industries all over the world.[9][10]
He won the Research and development (R&D or R+D) award from R&D magazine and also World Technology Award in 2005. Guha's works have also received recognition from United States Department of Energy (Bright Light Award), Best invention in the Environment Category by Discover (magazine), Best of what's new by Popular Science.[11]
In 2006, Former President of the United States George W. Bush visited Guha in Auburn Hills, Michigan, so as to explore the importance of achieving a major goal of US in becoming less dependent on foreign sources of oil.[12]
In 2009, he won PVSEC award for outstanding contribution to science and technology of photovoltaic.[13]
In 2014, he won the Best of the Best (Sherar Shera) Bengali award by ABP Ananda for contribution to science.[14]
Guha has written more than 250 scientific journal articles for publications and has over 30 US patents.[15]
Guha served as a member of the advisory committee to the Physics Department of Colorado School of Mines and Center for Photonic Nanomaterials of University of Michigan. He was also on the board of directors of Solar Energy Industries Association.U.S.A and Engineering Society of Detroit, and on the advisory committee of National Center for Photovoltaic, Golden, Colorado. He is now an Independent consultant advising universities and industries.[16]
