Sterling Biotech (BSE: 512299) is a pharmaceutical company incorporated on 23 March 1985 as Pluto Exports & Consultants Limited in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The company continues its operation as a producer of pharmaceutical and Neutraceutical Gelatin in India and Asia. Sterling Biotech is also engaged in the production of Dicalcium Phosphate (DCP) which is a derivative of Gelatin Manufacturing Process especially for the poultry-feed and fertiliser industry in India.

History
Sterling Biotech Limited (SBL) started its operation on 23 March 1985 in Mumbai as 'Pluto Exports & Consultants Limited'. It obtained its Certificate of Commencement of Business in the same year on 19 April. Pluto exports & Consultants Limited started as a trading company, thereafter changed its focus multiple times to reach a conclusion to continue as a pharmaceutical company. 24 June 1991, the company changed its name to Sterling Tea and Industries Limited. Again, the management changed their focus to Gelatin production as they saw few opportunities in that sector. On March 29, 1995, As a decision of the board of management and a part of growth strategy, the company renamed itself as Sterling Biotech Limited(SBL).[3]
In 1995, Sterling Biotech announced a technical collaboration with UK based Croda Colloids Limited. In 1997, Sterling Biotech diversified into pharmaceutical grade Gelatin and came up with their first production facility at Karakhadi, Vadodara with an initial installed capacity of 2200 MT. By the end of July, 2000, the company expanded to 4000MT pa capacity and decided to exit from the Tea business completely due to slow growth and a high level of competition. In 2003, Sterling Biotech started export of Gelatin and changed its symbol from 'STERLINTEA' to 'NSE: STERLINBIO'.
In 2004, Sterling Biotech acquired Gelatine business of Rallis India Limited for Rs. 47 crores. As of 2007, Sterling Biotech commissioned its plant for the manufacturing of Co Enzyme Q1O (Co Q10) at its Masar plant in Vadodara, Gujarat. Masar Plant facility is an export oriented unit.
As at March 2007, Sterling Biotech commissioned its plant for the manufacture of Co Enzyme Q1O (Co Q10) at its Masar plant in Vadodara. With effect from 30 March 2007, 'Titanic Investment and Consultants' holds 1,276,000 equity shares (representing 0.56% equity capital of the company). They are also the promoters group of the company.
In December 2022, Sterling Biotech was acquired by the American company Perfect Day. The acquisition was a result of the liquidation process carried out by the National Company Law Tribunal of India.[4]

Sterling Biotech is managed by a team of board of directors. CMD Nitin Sandesara and his father J.C. Sandesara, nurtured the company since its inception in 1985.[5] Other members of the Board of Directors team includes-

Products
The main manufacturing plant of Sterling Biotech is located in the Makarpura industrial area of Vadodara city.
Sterling Biotech have an API and Formulations manufacturing unit that manufactures their products in-house.
As per sources,[6] Sterling Biotech manufactures and sells Gelatin, Di calcium Phosphate and other Pharma products as compliant to Pharma grade. The company is known to offer Pharma products used for treatment of cancer and for various cardiovascular diseases. Some of them are as follows-
Oncology
- DOXORubicin and IDARUBICIN (Drugs used for chemotherapy).
- Daunorubicin (used in the treatment of acute lymphocytic and myelocyticleukemias).
- IMATINIB, (Used in the treatment of various type of cancers.
- EPIRubicin, (An anthracycline drug used in chemotherapy).
Cardiovascular
- Lovastatin, (An agent used for lowering cholesterol)
- DACARBAZINE (used in the treatment of Hodgkin disease and malignant melanoma)
- Temozolamide, (Used in grade IV astrocytoma, It is an oral alkylating agent)
- Simvastatin, (Used in reducing high risk heart problems. It's a lipid lowering agent)
- ZOLEDRONIC ACID, (A generic product with synthetic active pharmaceutical ingredients)
Sterling Biotech also manufactures Gelatin mainly used for making Capsule caps
