Siti Zainab

Siti Zainab binti Kimpal (1935 – August 21, 2014) was an Indonesian actress, singer, and dancer who was active in the 1940s and 1950s. She was the second wife of Zakaria bin Muhammad Amin.

Early life

Zainab was born in 1935 in Singapore.[1] She completed an elementary education at Hollandsch Inlandsche School, and went to religious school.[1]

Career

Zainab started her career by joined Dardanella troupe as an actress.[1] In 1947, she began her career as a singer and dancer by joined Bintang Berlian troupe in Palembang.[1] She also joined Sri Budaya troupe in Lubuklinggau.[1]

During Operation Product, Zainab moved to Jambi and then joined Dian troupe.[1] She then moved to Singapore and began her career as an actress by signed a contract with Shaw Brothers Studio.[1]

Zainab made her feature film debut in Nilam (1949), as a child actress, and in Nasib (1949).[1] She was most productive in 1950, when she appeared in four different films: Rachun Dunia, Bakti, Takdir Ilahi, and Dewi Murni.[1]

In 1950, she traveled back to Palembang along with her parents.[1] Zainab then joined Ratu Asia troupe as a dancer and singer, and later moved to Jakarta.[1] She released two songs Sayang di Sayang and Hari Raya, which gained positive response from music fans in Jakarta.[1]

Personal life

Zainab married Indonesian ulama, Zakaria bin Muhammad Amin, who was 22 years her senior, in 1956.[2] Zakaria died in 2006 due to diabetes. The couple had seven children.[2]

Zainab died at her residence in Kelapapati, Bengkalis, on August 21, 2014, due to heart attack.
