In 1979, he shared Golden Arena for Best Film Music alongside with members of Buldožer for That's the Way the Cookie Crumbles.[2]

Early life

Brecelj was born in Sarajevo. He studied geology at the University of Ljubljana, which he did not finish. Then he studied physics. Then he received the status of a free artist and wrote one of his best compositions, Alojz Valček, which he dedicated to the professor of mathematical physics, Alojz Kodret.

Career

Brecelj started his musical career as a violinist in the Tri Crna Quartet in the Ljubljana Trio Krik. He later quit playing the violin. He drew the attention of the general public as a singer-songwriter and chansonnier with his performance at the Youth Assembly in Subotica in 1974, where he also received an expert jury award. In the same year, in collaboration with the arranger Bojan Adamič, he released the album Cocktail.[3]

The plaque was awarded the Seven Secretaries of SKOJ award. The album included the song Hiskar Rogač, which he recorded with some members of the group Sedem svetlobnih let. With them, Marko founded the rock band Buldožer, where he worked as a writer of most of the lyrics and a singer. Among the most interesting parts of the group was the album Pljuni istini u oči. As part of this musical attraction, which achieved success throughout the former Yugoslavia, he became one of the most prominent frontmen, vocalists and authors on the rock music scene in the late 1970s. Pljuni istini u oči influenced many people, inclunding Plavi orksestar frontman Saša Lošić.

We had a concert in Križanke, this comeback concert 4 years ago for the Longplay album. At that moment, as I and this team of mine enter, I see from the side in an old peeling van or mini-truck, Marko Brecelj enters, holding a burek in his hand. I ran into myself: "Marko, Marko, I forgive you. Just one moment. I say maybe this is not the way, you have influenced my career and my life a lot. I am Saša Losić. You mean a lot to me. Your record Pljuni istini u oči defined my life". Marko looks at me like this and says: "Go fuck your mom".

He remained in the group until 1979 and recorded two LPs with it, as well as the soundtrack for the film That's the Way the Cookie Crumbles, which was also released as a mini-LP. He left the band and returned to writing songs and realized some songs, which became hits in the circles of alternative music (e.g. Parada, Radojka, Seksi disko hit, etc.).

He combined his creativity with the poet Ivan Volarič - Feo in the duo Zlatni zubi. In 1983 and 1984, the band was led by Marjanov čudni zec. In 1986, he republished the singer-songwriter album Desant na rt Dobre nade.[4] At the end of the 80s, he joined forces with saxophonist Primož Šmit and bass guitarist Aleš Jošt in the project Javna Dvaja. As a guest, he collaborated with various musical groups. His work is marked by irony and criticism of petty-bourgeois society.
