Joshua McConkey

Joshua Michael McConkey is a board-certified emergency physician and an American Commander of the 459th Aeromedical Staging Squadron at the Air Force Reserve Command. He is the recipient of Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal and Army Commendation Medal.[1] Previously, he served as medical director and Senior Flight Surgeon of the 304th Rescue Squadron.[2]

Education

McConkey completed his high school education in 1996.[1] He then attended the rural health opportunity program at Chadron State College.[3] He graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2003.[2]

Career

Upon completing medical school, McConkey was commissioned into the Nebraska Army National Guard, in 2007, he deployed to Iraq to provide medical support as a flight surgeon.[1] Later, he transferred to the Air Force Reserves to train as a critical care air transport physician.[4]

In 2019, McConkey was promoted to Colonel while serving at the rescue squadron in Portland, Oregon; before that, he served his fellow veterans at the VA hospital and as an assistant professor at Duke University.[4]

He completed additional training at the War College after transferring to the Air Force Reserves.[5] He is currently serving at the 459th Air Refueling Wing.[6]

McConkey was inducted into the Alliance (NE) Public Schools Hall of Fame as the 2022 Wall of Fame inductee.[2]
