Igor Kogan
Igor Vladimirovich Kogan (Russian: Игорь Владимирович Коган, born December 14, 1969, Chardzhev, Turkmen SSR)[1] is a founding father of credit reporting bureaus in Russia and a former chairman of the Board of Nordea Bank.
Biography
Igor Kogan was born in Chardzhev on December 14, 1969.[1]
During his undergraduate years, he worked as a software developer for small companies. He graduated from the Lenin State Pedagogical University in 1991 with a "Mathematics and Information Technology" degree. Upon graduation, he launched his own business of PCs and software.[2][3][1]
Later he moved to work at the First City Bank (Moscow) as the head of customer service area operations.[3][4]
In 1994, Igor Kogan defended a thesis named "Modeling the processes of managing market structures in a transitional period (on the example of commercial banks)" at the Institute of Economics and Mathematics at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.[5][2]
In the same year, he became the Director of the Investment Department of Infobank. Two years later, he was promoted to deputy chairman of the board. Igor Kogan worked at Infobank until 1998.[2]
In 1999, Igor Kogan joined Orgresbank as a deputy chairman of the board. Before taking the position, he secured investments for the organization, which was required because of losses due to the bank's participation in the state treasury bills crisis. In two months, he became the head of the bank.[6][1][7][5][2]
In 2000, Igor Kogan studied at the Financial and Banking Center of the Moscow International Business School (MIRBIS) with a degree in International Economic Activities of Commercial Banks.[2]
In 2004, Russia adopted the federal law "On Credit Histories." The original author of the bill was Igor Kogan. He was an expert in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade working group during the development of the legislation. Before submitting the bill to the State Duma at the final stages, he acted as a special consultant. His comments and corrections were included in the passed version of the law.[8][2]
In 2006, Igor Kogan received an honorary badge "For services to the banking community."[9]
In 2007, he coordinated the sale of 75.1% of the shares of Orgresbank to the Nordea group of companies with a price ratio of 3.9 to capital. Igor Kogan retained his position as well as the top management team.[6][7][1] In 2008, the bank was bought out entirely by Nordea. In 2009, the bank's name was changed to Nordea Bank.[7][10][11] Igor Kogan became deputy chairman of the Board of Nordea's Russian subsidiary.[7][10][11] Under his leadership, the bank entered the top 20 largest banks in Russia list. As the audit committee chair, Igor Kogan coordinated the development of the investment and credit policy, which allowed Nordea Bank to become number one in "The most stable bank in Russia" ranking according to Forbes in 2015.[12][6] He left the bank in 2019.[6]
