Hywel Thomas

Hywel Thomas (born 18 September 1972) is a British engineer who is CEO of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains and thus engine manager for the German Formula One stable Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team.[1]

Career

Thomas graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath. After graduation, he began working for Perkins Engines as a simulation engineer. It lasted until the late 1990s when he got a job with Cosworth. In 2004, he continued his professional career and started working at Mercedes-Ilmor, where he has worked, among other things, as a senior engineer, chief engineer and department head for engines.[2] On July 1, 2020, the CEO and F1 team's engine manager Andy Cowell left his positions and was then replaced by Thomas.
