Gary Thompson (racing driver)

Thompson is said to have started racing in karts in 2003, finishing a handsome 5th in the Cadet Irish Championship. His karting career then involved racing in the British Cadet Championship and later the British JICA Championship. Where he finished 6th in 2006 and 3rd in 2007.

In 2009 Thompson made the move into Formula Cars and raced in the Formula BMW Pacific Championship stylishly winning the opening race at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. In total Thompson had 11 podiums and finished second in the championship, winning the coveted Rookie of the Year Cup.

The following years were spent racing in Japanese Formula 3 Championship with the KCMG team. Also testing Super Formula for the KCMG team at Fuji International Circuit.

Gary Thompson (born 31 May 1992 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish racecar driver. He very briefly raced with the Romeo-Ferraris team in FIA European Formula 3 Championship[1] but departed the squad after just two rounds under mysterious circumstances.

Following a successful F3 career he raced for KCMG team in the Asian Le Mans Series in the LMP2 category. Taking 1 win with 2 fastest laps out of the 2 races competed in.

He is said to have moved into team ownership at Pinnacle Motorsport. Since their inception the team has competed in Asian Le Mans Series, Chinese Formula 4, Formula Masters China, Asian Formula Three, Asian Formula Regional and Formula Regional Middle East.

The team was Drivers Champion in Formula Masters China Series with Taylor Cockerton driving.

The team was Drivers Champion in Chinese Formula 4 with Jordan Dempsey.

The team finished 2nd in the Formula 3 Asian Championship in 2019 with Jack Doohan.

The team finished 2nd in the delayed 2021 Formula 3 Asian Championship with Pierre-Louis Chovet driving.

The team finished 2nd in the renamed 2022 Formula Regional Asia drivers championship for the 3rd season running with rookie Pepe Marti driving.

The team also finished 1-2 in the Rookie Championship with Pepe Marti winning and Dilano Van't Hoff 2nd.

The team has partnered for the 2023 season with Van Amersvoort Racing for the Formula Regional Middle Eastern Championship and the Middle Eastern Formula 4 Championship.
