Early life and education

Ethan Flower was born on July 23, 1968, in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, to Gladys Carbo and Erwin Manus. At the age of four, he was adopted by his British father, Edward Fordham Flower.[2][7][9][10] His great-great-great-grandfather was an English brewer Edward Fordham Flower who advocated for a Shakespeare Memorial Theatre.[7]

Flower spent part of his childhood in England and attended The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), where he began his theatre career.[12][7][8][9] He attended Interlochen Arts Academy and studied at Carnegie Mellon University before enrolling at LAMDA to hone his acting skills.[12][11]

Career

Flower began his career in theatre and performed in various productions in both the United States and the United Kingdom. His first stage performance was at the Berkshire Theatre Festival with Cicely Tyson and Hector Elizondo in "The Rose Tattoo".[2][7][11] Flower also made his television debut in "Look At It This Way" for the BBC, playing a Marine alongside Kristin Scott Thomas.[2] His American debut came in Kevin Smith's 1995 film Mallrats with Jason Mewes.[1][2][13]

Flower continued to work in popular television series such as "ER" (NBC, 1994–2009), "Parenthood" (NBC, 2009–2015), "Go On" (NBC, 2011–12), "Scandal" (ABC, 2011–), and "The Spoils of Babylon" (IFC, 2013–15).[2][13][7][10][14] He also appeared in films like "Vice" (2018) and "Dragon Day" (2013).

More recently, he appeared in "Severance" (2022) and "The Chosen" (2023).[15]
