In 2010, Drita developed an interest in athletics and started training with the help of her coach, Rrahman Alija, at Athletic Club Liria. Under his guidance, she quickly became one of the most talented athletes in the club and set around 10 national records in Macedonia during her time there.
Drita went on to attend numerous Balkan, European, and World Championships, showcasing her skills on an international level. Her hard work and dedication eventually paid off when she was selected to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
After several years with Athletic Club Liria, Drita decided to change clubs in 2015 to further develop her skills. Despite leaving the club, she remains one of its most accomplished athletes to date. Today, Drita continues to inspire young athletes in Macedonia and beyond with her impressive achievements in athletics. Today Drita Islami has joined Ak Rabotnicki, a well-known sports club in Skopje, North Macedonia. As part of the team, she will continue to hone her skills and compete in various athletic events. This new chapter in her athletic career brought her further success to Drita and Ak Rabotnicki alike.
She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the women's 400 meters hurdles race; her time of 1:01.18 in the heats did not qualify her for the semifinals.
Drita Islami is the national record holder of North Macedonia in the 400 meters hurdles.[1][2] She has set a new state record as a champion of the European team championship from the third league.[3]
