Book My Show (stylized as book my show) is a movie and event's ticket booking Android application in India. It is a subsidiary of Big Tree entertainment company. It was founded by Parikshit Dar and Rajesh Balpande in 2007.[4]

As of 21 June 2021, the company had 1,068 employees. The app sell tickets of Plays, Movies, Amusement parks, Sports matches, live concerts in India. It is reported that it provide its services across Asia and Oceania. It also provides information about upcoming films, shows, matches and venues. Mukesh Ambani owns 39% its stakes through Reliance Industries. 2014-15 fiscal year the application-website sold 5 Crore tickets. As per the apps one of the founder Balpande, the idea to start an online ticket selling platform was came other founder when they was on a vacation in South Africa in 1999, when they heard a radio jingle saying you could buy tickets online. From 2002 to 2007 they installed software in many multiplexes in India.[5] Its parent company have investors such as Network 18, Accel Partners, and SAIF Partners.[6] In financial year 2018, Book My Show lost 140.25 Cr. In 2018 its website use to calim that it's platform sells 15 million tickets to 30 million people in a month.[7] In 2021, it launched Pay-per-view streaming service by through which viewers can pay and watch films.[8] Its application and website also provide video classes of singing, lyrics writing and acting.

It also sell tickets through its website and deliver tickets to the user. The online ticket selling business in India is largely dominated by Book My Show, Paytm's Paytm Insider is the second popular application in India which provide same type of service.[9]

In 2022, Book My Show signed an exclusive ticket selling deal with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) due to which it sold tickets of 2022 season of Indian Premier League (IPL), by the deal they also got rights to manage the venue services at arenas, get entry and spectators management service.[10] It is selling tickets of the upcoming 2023 season of IPL.[11] Many times Book My Show sells tickets of Indian cricket team's bilateral series in home and of Indian Super Leauge.[12] This year they sold tickets of Women's Premier League.

Partnership

In 2013, it signed a five year deal with PVR Cinema by which they started selling tickets latter's multiplex chain across India.[13] In 2017 PVR in partnership with Book My Show started a movie on demand, pay-per-view service on latter's mobile application.[14]

Controversies

In May 2019, Book My Show's a manager in Kolkata alleged that some customers used debit and credit cards inappropriately to purchase tickets of IPL matches of 15 April on 24 March 2019. In response police arrested Sujit Ojha for unlawful activities, reportedly he has purchased 68 tickets of ₹ 2,35,027. Cyber police arrested bookies. Magistrate denied bail to Ojha.[15]

In 2019 Vijay Gopal, president of Forum Against Corruption, filed a Right to information query to the Reserve Bank of India to know about internet fees that tickets selling portals takes from its customers while accepting payments from debit and credit card. RBI in response answered that the ticket selling portals are violeting its Merchant Discount Rate regulations. Later PVR and Book My Show booked for charging extra fees on tikets from customers.[16]

In 2022, Vijay Gopal founder and owner of ticket selling portal Showtyme filed a case against Book My Show, for violating GO 47. He claimed in front of Competition Commission of India (CCI) that Book My Show has formed an explicit cartel with multiplexes owners, they do not allow to sell tickets to other portals even under 50% less convince fees, " thereby controlling the movie ticketing industry and has imposed barriers for new entrants". CCI directed Director General of Police (DIG), Telangana to investigate the alligations for violating 'GO 47 and Competition Act' which direct to keep 50% tickets to sell at licenced booking office of cinema theatres.[17]
