Voidborn (5e Race)
Voidborn
"Afraid of the dark? Wise."
Physical Description
Deep in the blind eternities and on various planes, voids are formed, and out of these voids come horrors that terrorize the surrounding place of where they were spawned. Every single Voidborn is vastly different from each other. There are some common themes among them, hard chitin like shells that are void blue and a warped purple. There are also classifications that some Voidborns fall into.
Voidreavers are almost insect-like with transparent wings to help them jump onto their prey. They usually have bowed legs and rounded heads spines on their body and sharp claws. They are intelligent but still primal hunters. They hide in the shadows waiting for an isolated target and when the target least expects it, they strike. Never underestimate a Voidreaver they will stab you in the back when you least expect it.
Voidseers are an abomination, their true form is octopus-like with a giant central eye with jutting tentacles this eye can fire pure arcane energy. Voidseers can open rifts by using their tentacles. Voidseers are able to polymorph into a form more suitable to the prying eyes of society the one caveat to this form is the eye must still be present on this form. Voidseers are very intelligent and xenophobic they think everyone is out to get them.
Abyssmouthes are very low to the ground primitive creatures that spit acid to help them devour their prey. They are squat with large mouthes that are the size of their body. If you are eaten by an Abyssmouth you will not be a happy camper. If you become fully consumed you are transferred to the void of which they were born. Abyssmouthes can eject their esophagus to fire acid at high speeds that will stick to you and will slowly burn your flesh.
Abyssterrors are giant bipedal creatures with large mandibles that help them devour their prey. They are usually upwards to planet 8 feet to the size of planets, it all depends on how long you live, THe eldest Abyssterror is Cho'Gath who is the size of a large planet and has eaten many planets. Voidterror claws are lined with spikes that can pierce solid steel. Some Voidterrors can launch these spikes at foes. A Voidterror's scream is so loud it deafens all surrounding noise.
Voidburrowers are very insect-like just like Voidreavers but instead of thin frames, they are much wider with 2 spike-like back legs and 2 large front claws that help them burrow easier. Voidburrowers do not have eyes but instead, feel with sound and tremors. They are able to go through the ground like water and come up and surprise unsuspecting victims. Voidburrowers often live in deserts because of the freedom of movement.
History
The boldest of the Watchers tore open the veil and hurled themselves upward, only to be horribly disoriented by the sudden shift between the abyss and the corporeal, linear nature of reality. In an instant, there was time, and heat, and pain...
Then there was only cold. The way was shut, and dozens of the Watchers were trapped in the liminal space between two realms, frozen in the moment of transition.
Those that remained in the Void recoiled. They had no concept of what had happened, yet they knew they had been betrayed.
And so, they adapted.
Reaching into the material realm, the Watchers took from the crude matter that comprised it, shaping, corrupting and imbuing it with consciousness. These constructs were the first of the Voidborn, and would be their masters' eyes and ears, sent forth into the nightmare of existence to watch, listen, and learn.
Society
Voidborns do not have a centralized society they just meet up with others from their species and those do not try to join other societies but are usually shunned and ejected. Others build cities for themselves and threaten humanoids into working for them and becoming a "friend" to them Voidseers are the most common to do this. Abyssmouthes usually dwell in swamps or other dark and cold places. Voidburrowers live in the desert or plains. They like flat terrains that they can easily burrow through. Voidreavers live in deep rainforests and jungles they need places to hide so they can sneak up on their prey.
