Talk:Card Summoner (5e Class)

Something I'd like to point out about this class is that a lot of it is quite ambiguous. For example, I was looking into making a Summoner deck, but I found myself asking unanswered questions like:

  • How long do the summons last?
  • Is there a limit to how many I can have out? Can I have like 36 snakes, or maybe just have one of everything out?
  • How do I communicate with them? And do they retain their natural alignment?
  • How do I regenerate mana? Short or long rests?

I also feel kind of lacking in variety with what cards I can take as well, because by level 5, I get all cantrips possible and that's that. Idunno, maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't. I'm just writing whatever I felt like was an issue. -- gzoomi

I would recommend using a cardcaster. — Geodude671 (talk | contribs | email)‎ . . 00:32, 26 September 2017 (MDT)

So at 10th level I can have 3 9th level spells. Seems legit. The Fyre Fox - The Only Real Fox There Is. (talk) 06:09, 22 October 2017 (MDT)

I was adding more, I just took a little break from the wiki, and when I came back I noticed that this class was hijacked by another user, I'm unsure on whom but I'll be adding more and make this a full on 'chance' class, you'll understand soon and hopefully like the idea of it --Bigdad881 (talk) 19:06, 9 November 2017 (MST)

Just fixed some issues, planning on adding different card sets later on, when it comes to summoning you have a set amount of creatures you are able to summon, at starting level it is 8 and increases every level by the characters intelligence modifier, and they disappear after 8 hours, thinking about lowering this to 1 hour and the mana situation is regained after a completion or a short or long rest, probably going to switch this to a long rest myself, and if y'all have any questions about the random card set or have any ideas I'm open to ideas, leave a good comment or crap doesn't matter if you want, the more feed back the better I can make the thing's I'm working on.--Bigdad881 (talk) 19:45, 9 November 2017 (MST)

Luck of the Card

How does this work and I don't think a feature should be part of a homebrew if you need an entirely separate discussion for it. BigShotFancyMan (talk) 09:35, 13 December 2017 (MST)

Not that hard to understand, basically the card summoner casts a spell (any spell) of the chosen level at random Elfman1996 (talk 12:59,07 September 2018

hmph you're right. It is very basic. This class cannot prepare for their turn and will never know what spell they'll cast. forgive me for questioning such a simple design. BigShotFancyMan (talk) 01:56, 8 September 2018 (MDT)

Card Sets

These need spaced out as someone mentioned earlier. At 10th level, casting 9th level spells is too powerful. Classes get these at 17th level, if you want something that is an exception, at least try to keep power level close. BigShotFancyMan (talk) 09:38, 13 December 2017 (MST) "Double posting", sorry (Tired of big long reviews currently, so creating topics for this one works since its got a couple features basically). It seems like the "Decks" are subclasses basically. I would try and take that angle where 1st level you get your cantrips and first level spells and then get higher level spells at subless feature levels. You could try to follow a three quarters caster progression of half progression? Or get spells for the appropriate level including anything that could be cast at lower levels like other casters. I think you can make a flavorful class here, but gonna need some polish, creativity, and work. BigShotFancyMan (talk) 09:43, 13 December 2017 (MST)
