This template is applied to a specific set of base creatures (Explained Below).

Creating a Kirin

This is an inherited template that can be applied to only Pegasi, Unicorns, and/or Earth Ponies (referred to hereafter as the base creature).

Size and Type

Size increases by 1 step and type changes to dragon.

Hit Dice

Increase base creature’s racial HD by one die size, to a maximum of d12. Do not increase class HD.

Speed

If the Base Creature has wings, flight distance is increased by 30'. If Base Creature does not have wings, they gain wings and a fly speed of 1.5 times their base land speed (rounded up) and average maneuverability.

Armor Class

+2 to Natural Armor

Attack

A Kirin gains two claw attacks and a bite attack, and the claws are the primary natural weapon. A kirin fighting without weapons uses a claw when making an attack action. When it has a weapon, it usually uses the weapon instead.

Full Attack

A kirin fighting without weapons uses both claws and its bite when making a full attack. If armed with a weapon, it usually uses the weapon as its primary attack and its bite as a natural secondary attack. If it has a clawed hand free, it uses a claw as an additional natural secondary attack. Damage: Kirins have bite and claw attacks. Refer to the table below for damage calculations (Other sizes included in case it applies)

Special Attacks

A Kirin gains a breath weapon usable 1/day. The breath weapon deals 2d8 points of damage. A successful Reflex save (DC 10 + 1/2 Kirin’s racial HD + Kirin’s Con modifier) reduces damage by half.

Special Qualities

A kirin gains darkvision out to 60 feet and low-light vision.

A Kirin takes only 50% damage from a particular element and double damage from the opposing element, based on its dragon variety.

A Kirin is treated as a 1st level sorcerer for spells per day and spells known. This stacks with actual levels in sorcerer to determine spells per day and spells known but not class features.
