Eldritch Origin (5e Subclass)
Eldritch Origin
Sorcerer Subclass
Herald of Maraaq’
Maraaq’ has chosen you as its vessel, tasking you with spreading its influence throughout the material realm. When you chose this origin, your perception of reality is gradually warped as you gain permanent madness on the Madness Table below at the 1st, 6th, 14th, and 18th levels. Additionally, at the 1st level you begin to produce Elder Biotics, which serve as the foundation for your progress.
Elder Speech
Elder Speech is...
Elder Biotic
Elder Biotics appear as leech-sized worms that crawl out of the sorcerer’s hand, and must be applied to the bare skin of a creature. The Elder Biotic burrows its way into the skin of the host, causing a rash to develop on the area where it burrowed. There are two variants of the Elder Biotic: the Lesser Biotic and the Greater Biotic, both of which are detailed below. Elder Biotics can be removed by any cleansing effect, such as ???.
Lesser Biotic
At the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th levels, the Herald of Maraaq’ infuses the hosts of Elder Biotics with different effects.
At the 1st level, the host has the ability to understand, read, and speak Elder Speech, but can only do so while within 60 ft. of the Herald. Additionally, the Herald can send brief and incoherent hallucinations or emotions to any host target of their choice.
At the 3rd level, Lesser Biotics apply a passive healing effect to their host. The host can use their action to regain 1d4 HP each turn. This healing cannot grant any excess health above the host’s maximum HP. This healing is increased to 1d6 at the 7th level.
At the 5th level, the Lesser Biotic becomes strong enough for the Herald to exert more control over the host. The host is prompted with the option to surrender to Maraaq’s influence. If they accept, the host’s Lesser Biotic evolves into a Greater Biotic.
Greater Biotic
When the host chooses to further evolve their Elder Biotic, they gain extra mechanics from the Biotic at the expense of undergoing a series of mental changes. The host loses all positive emotional inclinations, their motivation instead supplanted by the drive to further Maraaq’ cause. athey are freed from doubt, anxiety, and connections from anyone outside the cult, and are inversely conscripted into the cult and can no longer willfully act against it. Hosts of Greater Biotes gain the ability to understand, read, and speak Elder Speech regardless of their distance from the Herald.
At the 5th level, the Herald is able to cast Alter Self at will on any host of their choice. This effect is limited to the area where the Biotic is burrowed. Additionally, the effect of Alter Self is limited to Natural Weapons.
