A group of biochemists have not been cleaning their tools correctly. Instead, they send their lab waste directly to the town sterilization and recycling center; however, what they did not know was that Taranian biomass is extremely hardy, and begins to digest every other organic material that the town sends to the sterilization and recycling center. This quest has Taranian goo in it, but you can add other creatures if you want.

A group of theoretical physicists are planning to do an experiment to better understand the electronuclear force, which is only available in insanely high temperatures. Their motive is the theory that the strong force separating out from the electronuclear force caused a faster-than-light expansion of the universe. Their reasoning is that if you heat something to a temperature high enough so that the strong force is accepted into the electronuclear force, it will initiate faster-than-light collapse of spacetime. This may be the key to unlocking superluminal travel. However, their experiment goes wrong and the lab is destroyed, leaving an Anomaly and several Ball Lightning detailed in the Bestiary section.
