Wonder Trade

Wonder Trade (Japanese: ミラクル交換 Miracle Exchange) is a feature of the Generation VI and VII Nintendo 3DS core series games that allows players to randomly trade with another player using the feature. It was replaced by Surprise Trade in the Generation VIII games as well as the Wonder Box.

Wonder Trade is accessed from the first menu of the Player Search System (in Generation VI) or from the trade menu of Festival Plaza (in Generation VII). Players choose their own Pokémon to trade, the system searches for a Wonder Trade partner, then trades the Pokémon. Wonder Trading will give the player Poké Miles depending on how far the other player Wonder Trading with them is from their location; the farther the other player, the more Poké Miles will be earned. Anyone traded with will be added to the Acquaintances section of the PSS.

Like regular trading, Wonder Trading can trigger trade evolutions.

Untradeable Pokémon

Pokémon Eggs, Cosplay Pikachu, Pokémon holding a Mega Stone or colored orb, and Pokémon with special Ribbons (Classic, Premier, or Birthday) cannot be Wonder Traded. Attempting to Wonder Trade an Egg or a Pokémon holding one of these items will instead result in the "Partner not found" error message. In case of Cosplay Pikachu or a Pokémon with special Ribbons, they will receive the error message "It's a special Pokémon. You cannot trade it!"

Pokémon with moves or items introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire cannot be Wonder Traded to Pokémon X and Y; a player trading a Pokémon with items or moves from Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will never be matched with Pokémon X and Y. However, if a Pokémon in Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire is Wonder Traded, and that Pokémon only has moves and items that exist in Pokémon X and Y, it can be matched with Pokémon X and Y.

Blacephalon, Stakataka, Poipole, Naganadel, Rockruff with Own Tempo, and Dusk Form Lycanroc—which were all introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon—cannot be Wonder Traded.

In the Generation VI games, if the player attempts to Wonder Trade a Pokémon that the game identifies as illegitimate, they will instead receive the "Partner not found" error message. In the Generation VII games, they will instead receive the error message "It seems there is a problem with the Pokémon."
