This section is incomplete. Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it. Reason: Double-check Ranch, Dream Radar, Channel, Link, Colosseum Bonus Disc (including Japanese Ageto Celebi), Mt. Battle Ho-Oh |
Pokémon caught in the wild, obtained as a gift or in-game trade, met in Entree Forest, or received as a Mystery Gift have the game they were obtained in as their game of origin. Eggs have their game of origin set to the game in which they were obtained, not the game they were hatched. Shedinja retains the Nincada's game of origin.
Pokémon obtained from My Pokémon Ranch, Pokémon Dream Radar, Pokémon Channel, and Pokémon Link use the game they were transferred to.
Pokémon from the Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disc have Pokémon Ruby as their game of origin. The gift Ho-Oh from Mt. Battle in Pokémon Colosseum has Pokémon Sapphire as its game of origin. Pokémon obtained as gifts in Pokémon HOME have Pokémon Sword as their game of origin, though this is displayed in Pokémon HOME as being met in "Pokémon HOME" rather than in "the Galar region".
Technical implementation
In Generation III, this value occupies 4 bits of a two-byte word in the Pokémon data structure. From Generation IV onward, it occupies a whole byte.
